Potions: A Curious Tale is launched on Kickstarter on April 8th, reaching 20% of the funding goal in the first 24 hours.
Potions: A Curious Tale is an adventure-crafting game where your wits and ingenuity are your greatest weapons, and combat is not always the answer. Play as Luna, a young witch who overcomes obstacles with the potions she brews. Encounter fairy tale characters and stories from around the world in new settings and situations as you guide Luna on her quest to become a potions master.
Potions is a reinvention of old adventure-puzzle games, such as Zelda, while making use of a resource-based combat system where you craft every spell you cast. The gameplay attracts fans of classic games, while the illustrated art style, fun story and relatable characters appeals to women and gamers of all ages.
Potions is Stumbling Cat’s first major game with gameplay that challenges the traditional benefits of combat in games much as the story of Potions challenges the traditional depictions of folklore characters and events. After creating a base prototype of the game, Renee worked to recruit a strong team to bring the game life. Her good friend, David Dunne, joined the team as the lead writer bringing his previous writing experience on League of Legends and WildStar. A talented artist from London, Jake Neal, was recruited for his stunning environment art. Wesley Eldridge, a local developer and artist, was enlisted to create animations and character art for the game. Most recently, Joshua Du Chene, a talented foli magician and composer joined the team.
Renee is a multi-disciplinary leader with expertise in software engineering and creative direction. She is the CEO of Stumbling Cat, creator of Potions: A Curious Tale. She led engineering and server development at Fixer Studios, and designed and developed cognitive evaluation mini-games and health management systems for X2 Biosystems.
Renee is a passionate advocate and connector for developers and diversity in the game industry. Renee organizes game-jams, panels, job fairs and other developer events as a board member of IGDA Seattle, contributes to Broken Joysticks, and actively mentors game development students at Foundry10.
